Secretary 1797 - 99; Vice-President 1807 - 36. Chemist, son of Thomas Henry (1734 - 1816). Hon physician to the Infirmary 1808 -17. Copley medallist 1809, one of first to analyse coal gas. Fellow of Royal Geological Soc. 1803, communicated 'Henry's Law to Royal Society. 1832, developed chemical theory of contagion and on this basis constructed a steam-heated apparatus for disinfecting clothes and bedding. Shot himself.
